Week 15 Video Review

Greenburg on Art Criticism:  Greenburg discusses the beliefs in which it is much harder to write about visual art, than it is to write about literature.  It is discussed, that their was crisis in his younger years, which has changed, and there is not much anymore.  He discussed that fact that artists today are proving themselves, and so much not the modern art.

Greenberg on Pollock:  Greenberg met Pollock outside of a corner store.  Greeenburg reviewed easel paintings and that of which Pollock's.  Pollock is discussed in the fact that some believe that he was not a real or true painter, and that he was an outsider of the New York City scene.

Introduction to Italian Renaissance:  The film discusses the various artists in the time of the Renaissance.  Giotto was the first to make way into the Renaissance, and his work represented beautiful Byzantine.  The Renaissance artist sculpted, painted, and developed mosaics about the world around them.  Ghiberti was another artist discusses, and how he brought depth and human form to his works.  Donatello, created "David" and the idea of contrapposto.  Uccello developed works and brought perspective to the human and animal form.

The Critics:Stories from the inside pages:  Criticism helps open up artwork in order for people to see it in a different way. Critics make it possible to convey information about artworks to the public.  They get others thinking, and perform reviews on artists' artwork which are informed opinions.

The Colonial Encounter Views of nonwestern Art and Culture:  The Dahome exhibit brought impression to the World Fair.  The french were focused on the imperialism, and celebrated its self images, some believe this work did not reflect much of colonies.

Jackson Pollock: Michael Fried & T.J. Clark in Conversation:  Fried focused on the aesthetics of Pollocks work.  Clark focused more on the historical role.  Both discuss Pollock's work, and how brought upon an impact in the art world.

These video do relate to the overall art criticism project. Criticism does allow for opinion to take place when creating and exhibition and when creating the project, I thought about the criticism that might take place for my exhibit.

These films led me to understand more about art criticism and what it embodies.  The film True Critics, allowed me to understand the process, point, and impact of what art critics convey.  They are able to bring information to the public and allow others to look at artwork in a different way.
